1.    General information 

Brief information on the project 

Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is an international enterprise for cooperation and sustainable development, owned by the German Federal Government and active in 130 countries worldwide. In Tajikistan, GIZ has been working since 1995. The Project “Local Economic Development in Selected High Mountain Regions” is currently implemented in Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) by GIZ on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The project is aimed to support the local economy, leading to create sufficient and sustainable conditions for generating self-employment or dependent work for young people in GBAO.  The project is active mainly in Shugnan, Roshtqala, Rushan, Ishkashim Districts and Khorog town. The target beneficiaries of the project are Micro, Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (MSMEs), small scale farmers and Self Help Structures (SHS).

The project is mainly focusing at achieving the following results:

  • The business start-ups, MSMEs and small scale farmers have access to high quality business development services and affordable financing options to improve their businesses;
  • Small-scale farmer groups/SHS of the selected value chains (fruit and vegetables, sea-buckthorn, dairy) have strengthened and improved their production capacity, product quality and linked to the new markets. 

2.    Description of the works 

The objective of internship is to provide students or graduates (for the later ones, at the start of the internship, graduation must not have been completed more than 6 months ago) of university education a possibility to familiarize with the engagement of GIZ in Tajikistan. To this end, as a rule, interns should work on a certain specific topic mentioned above, which will allow familiarising with the theme of the project, policy of supporting social-economic development of developing countries, or with the tasks and services of the GIZ Office.

GIZ shall hire short-term National Intern (hereafter contractor) for the anticipated contract term, of 6 months period. An internship agreement is signed for a term indicated in the referral and/or the duration not exceed 120 working days at once.  

The National Intern shall provide the following work/service: 

  • Day-to-day administrative assignments, logistic support;
  • Support in translation of project documents both from Russian to English and vice versa as well as from Tajik to English and vice versa
  • Logistical and organisational support to the conduction of official meetings, workshops, seminars and conferences;
  • Support project activities related to knowledge management and public relations (e.g. developing communication material for the project on the basis of existing technical documents);
  • Assist with organization of expert missions, e.g. drafting mission schedules, setting up meetings with national and international partners;
  • Assist with writing reports, news releases, organising and archiving press materials as well as filing;
  • Preparing brief summaries of relevant reports;
  • Other tasks on ad-hoc basis; 

3.    Requirements 

Qualifications of the National Intern

The national intern shall possess the following qualification: 

  • Fresh graduate of business management, business administration, economics, agricultural economics or similar field.
  • First theoretical or practical experience in project management and/or monitoring and evaluation
  • Be a student or graduate student (for the later one, at the start of the internship, graduation must not have been completed more than 6 months ago),
  • Fluency in English, Russian and Tajik is a major requirement, Shugni language is preferable
  • CVs should be submitted in English language
  • Proof of study and Referral from education establishment about current or recently finished studies required (add here)
  • The intern should work on a certain topic, which will allow with familiarizing with the theme of the Project
  • Availability for the field trips
